I've been having a look around the web and there seems to be a vast difference in opinion on whether the game looks good or not..i've seen people rave about it and say the best looking tycoon sim out there and on the other hand i've seen someone give it 8/20 or call it worse looking than most other tycoon games out there....

I suspect people are falling foul of the following:

Full details about improving the look of the game are in the General Game FAQ which can be located in the Support page on this site.

However just to re-iterate..

There are essentially 2 detail settings for the game.

1) When you first bring up the launcher
2) When you are in the game itself

When you bring up the launcher and goto the configuration screen you will see 2 selections..

Resolution
Texture Quality

i) Resolution
Obviously running the game in a higher res will help the look but performance may suffer depending on the card you have. Also you must ensure you are running it in 32bit mode if you want the shadows to look correct.
so if you want to run it in 800 x 600 in 32bit select
800x600x32.

ii) Texture Quality
There should be 5 options available from very low to very high but we restricted some of the higher options based on how much video memory your card has. If it exceeds 64MB you will see the Very High option, this means the textures ingame will look their best. This may/may not affect the performance on your machine, but it will certainly increase loading times..

I currently have a Geforce 3 Ti200 64Mb and i only see High on there, we may unlock the higher level in an update as it should still work on a card like this.

Once you are in the game..

Simply goto the video options in the options panel
and select custom..

i) Drag all the sliders to the right
ii) Make sure material quality is set to high
iii) Make sure triliner filtering is enabled

I think that about covers it.

regards

It's simpy because some people don't know how to make the most out of the graphics by vhanging the settings. Some people don't know about, some are too scared in case something happens. Maybe a readme in the next patch could tell people about this

I think it looked good straight out the box - I am suprised that some people have ben dissapointed by the looks as for a sim the detail is very high, the facial detail of the punters is much better than most tycoon games that I can think of.

Will try and update screenshots section with some new pictures when i get back to reflect this.

cheers

turn distance down and everything else up!

The models are tad little blocky, but judging from the processor requirements, low-poly was clearly necessary.. how would BF 1942 or the ilk look if they had to handle 5000+ moving characters?

Still much better than other tycoon games..

Some of the textures could be better... IMO the pair o' dice doesnt really look 'classic' enough-- a little too rainbow/cotton candy..

but the developers foresight in opening up the program to player modding should solve this down the line!

the graphics are nice

but i have a little problem with the text

the font is somehow blurred,/not realy clear
which makes it a bit difficult to read the text
i tried different resolution settings but it stays the same

but its not that bad, i managed to finish the game anyway

I think the graphics are just amazing. I don't have one thing wrong at all with them. If anyone says this game dosen't have amazing graphics, they're either really stupid or they live in 2020!

For the people that said the graphics were rubbish, they either saw bad screenshots or they don't have a good enough computer to cope with the great graphics. In what other game can you fly around an exploding firework in the air while still have over 5000 people in your view and many detailed buildings too? No other game that I know of you can do anything of the type.

Games like Rollercoaster Tycoon however were really popular and they have good artwork/graphics but everything is 2D. I think this game should up in the ranks of competing against Rollercoaster and Sim City 4.

Maybe some people don't have good enough computers for Vega$: Make it Big. I know a good few people who don't.

And lastly Rormc, sorry, I don't know how you would make the text clearer, maybe this would b a job for Ropes...

Some graphics cards drivers allow you to muck about with the texel offsets of your textures. If you do this then can potentially knock your graphics precision out by a fraction of a pixel. Usually this doesn't cause a problem but for text it can have the effect of blurring it. Have a look at your graphics options for your video card (rick click desktop -> Properties -> Gfx card tab -> some option from here.

Not all drivers expose the ability to adjust your texel offsets so it might not help.

I also agree that the graphics are great. But I have a question about the audio of the game, before I bought it i was reading every review i could about it all over the internet and all of them said that the sound was even better than the graphics, and a lot of them said if you close your eyes for a little and just listen to it while its running you won't be able to tell that your not in Vegas yourself. Well All I pretty much hear is the music and some chatter of people, but while inside the casino I don't hear the slots or anything like that, just pretty much elevator music, i tried turning down the music volume all the way and the sound effects all the way up and its still pretty bland and not much going on. So I'm just wondering if I'm missing something or whats going on, because when i close my eyes i don't feel like i'm in Vegas, i feel like i'm in an elevator.
