I hope this dosn't come off as rude, I am just curious.  I noticed you had a pretty small dev team there on this one (And there is hope for all the small houses out there!!!!) so my question is, 'Did you goes write that engine or buy it from someone?'  Agian, not wanting to sound rude, just curious.  I have a very small band of programmers who's major project will have the same scope as Vega$, so Thus my curiosity.

Havin a blast,

M/10

Hi M/10 - No probs - yep engine was developed completely internally.

The number of people on the game was indeed very small compared with many dev companies out there. Number of programmers typically varied from 3-4 with additional help near the end. Art was pretty much the same.

regards

Take it from me, you just don't need more people than that to do almost anything - they just have to be good as these guys are. Get 2 or 3 expensive and talented programmers with proven histories and they'll cost less than a 100 post-grads and give you double the rewards.

I've seen programming teams where one guys job for 18 months is to code the buttons for the interface! There'll be 24 programmers working on AI, 16 on the 3D engine and 10 more on 'other'. All they do all day is talk to each other to find out who's doin what tomorrow.

If you put 1 or 2 guys into each of those departments, you'll save a mil a year and still get the same amount of work done. It absolutely amazes me how big developers urinate money away playing "my teams bigger than yours". I'd rather go with "my team is actually a team" and get a profitable game made.

Seriously, a lot of upper management/producers/publishers have no clue how much one single competent programmer can get done in year when he can spend that entire year thinking and typing rather than attending development meetings...

Just lookin at this topic

Again, we have more game programmers and stuff. That's 3 or 4 people now I've seen who are game designers and stuff.

Don't want to sound rude, but why is all the game designers and programmers here for, were you all attracted by Vega$: Make it Big?!

Sorry, it's just a strange coincidence
